Frequently asked questions

If you don’t find the answer to your question here, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.

How long does a typical due diligence assessment take?

Assessments vary in length and scope, depending on the firm to be assessed, the insurer's or funder's specific requirements, and the complexity of the required reporting. Generally, we require 2 to 8 weeks to complete our assessments. Each follows a structured roadmap, agreed with you during the scoping meeting, with regular milestones for progress updates, so you have a clear picture of the timeline in advance.

Do you only provide an assessment, or can you help implement changes?

Pre-panel assessments are only part of the services we offer. Our involvement can extend to implementing and monitoring the changes needed to ensure the firms you work with meet critical governance and compliance thresholds. This includes file audits, tailored training programmes to close skills or process gaps, and ongoing monitoring and follow-ups. You’ll find more details on our Services page.

What sizes and types of law firms do you assess?

Our team has experience working with and within law firms across the full spectrum – from smaller specialist practices to larger, multi-disciplinary firms. Our approach is flexible by design, tailoring, scaling, and adapting our assessments to extract the most valuable and relevant insights you need to make confident, data-driven decisions about the firms you instruct – regardless of size, sector or structure.

Why should we use Complex Risk instead of handling assessments in-house?

Insurers, funders and brokers work with Complex Risk for two main reasons: capacity and capability. Pre-panel due diligence can be a complex and time-consuming process that diverts attention from core business activities. Having an independent partner on board not only reduces this burden but adds specialised, market-wide expertise that your internal teams may not possess.

How do you handle the sensitive data you access during a review?

We operate on a least-privilege basis, requesting only the access we need to carry out an effective review. All data is stored and processed in compliance with relevant legislation and subject to strict secure handling protocols. Access is restricted to vetted personnel trained in data protection regulations, and post-engagement, all client data is securely and permanently deleted.
